Welcome to EYFS

At Coppetts Wood School, we believe every child is unique, with questions and ideas about the world that we seek to develop within an environment that nurtures, supports and challenges young children. Our staff will work with you to ensure your child thrives through carefully planned opportunities and experiences that focus on building self-confident independent learners. Our aim is to give the children the best possible start to their journey through school.  We work closely with our Children’s Centre to support families in the Early Years. They offer a wide variety of services that include; stay and play drop in sessions, baby groups, family support, parenting advice, courses, workshops, breakfast club and much more. Attending sessions in the Children’s Centre with your child will help them get used to socialising with their peers before they start Nursery or Reception. Current timetables are available on our website under the Children’s Centre tab.

Home Visits

Before your child starts we will visit you and your child in your home. A home visit is beneficial as it the first step towards settling into school as it  means that we are familiar with your child on their first day. The purpose of a home visit is to learn about some of your child’s interests before they start, and it provides you with an opportunity to raise any queries you may have about the school.

Settling in

Please be prepared to spend time settling your child into school, it can take several days depending on the needs of each child. Staff will advise and support you to ensure your child becomes confident and independent. We admit children in small groups.  This gives us the opportunity to spend time with individual children and ensure they have the best possible transition into Nursery or Reception.

Tapestry

We use an electronic learning journal called Tapestry, where staff place photographs and observations of the children which you can access with your own secure individual password. Tapestry also allows you to add your own photographs and notes of things the children may have done at home.

Key Person in Nursery

We understand that no one knows their child better than you. That is why we place partnerships with parents at the heart of what we do. After your child has settled, they will be assigned a key person. This person will be responsible for developing a trusting relationship with your child. Their role is to offer reassurance and care. The key person ensures that every child’s care is tailored to meet their individual needs and works to build a supportive relationship with the  school, child and parents.

Uniform

Children in our Nursery wear the Active Uniform everyday.

Active Uniform - Emerald green hoody with the school logo.  Plain black school shorts, plain white t-shirt, plimsolls or trainers (in a P.E. bag). Black leggings or black track suit bottoms in colder weather.  Wellies can be left in school for Outdoor Learning or Forest School.
