Coppetts Wood Choir
Our school choir is made up of singers from across Key Stage Two and is led by Mr Warwick, our music teacher. Choir practice takes place weekly, every Thursday morning at 8.30am.
We encourage pupils to join in the fun and be art of our active, enthusiastic Coppetts Wood choir.
Being part of a school choir holds many benefits, both educational and developmental, including:
-
Emotional Expression & Confidence
Singing in a choir helps children express emotions in a safe and structured way. Performing in front of others builds self-esteem and reduces performance anxiety. -
Social Connection & Teamwork
Choirs foster a sense of belonging. Pupils learn to listen to each other, blend their voices, and work toward a common goal—skills that are transferable to many areas of life. -
Cultural Awareness
Choirs often explore music from different cultures and time periods, broadening pupils' understanding of the world. -
Creativity: Pupils engage with music creatively, sometimes even composing or arranging.
- Cognitive Development: Singing improves memory, language acquisition, and auditory processing.
-
Wellbeing: Singing releases endorphins and reduces stress, contributing to better mental health.
- Literacy Skills: Lyrics enhance vocabulary, comprehension, and phonological awareness.
Choirs also support several key areas of the music curriculum:
- KS1 & KS2 Objectives:
- Use their voices expressively and creatively.
- Sing songs and speak chants and rhymes.
- Perform in solo and ensemble contexts.
- Improvise and compose music.
- Listen with attention to detail and recall sounds with increasing aural memory.
