Headteacher's Blog - 02.05.2025

Last week was a great first week back after the Easter break and this week, the positive start has continued.

This half term’s value is cooperation. Assemblies, circle time discussions and ‘special mentions’ have focused on understanding this value and what it looks like in practice as well as acknowledging pupils demonstrating great cooperation at Coppetts Wood.

As the weather is beginning to warm and pupils are spending more time outside in the sun, please ensure that you apply an effective sunscreen on your child, before school, so that their skin has both UVA and UVB protection. A sun hat or cap is also recommended as well as providing a refillable water bottle, to ensure that they can easily rehydrate throughout the day.

Families with a child diagnosed with Autism can access a range of support, services and information from the Barnet Children and Families Autism Hub. You can register interest and attend events and sessions, including: coffee mornings, advice, face-to-face and virtual drop-in sessions, and monthly film nights.

There are a number of exciting events taking place at Coppetts Wood this term, including school trips; EYFS phonics cafes; the Barnet Music Festival; sports days: and our summer fair. Dates for all of these events will be shared with families and we encourage you to regularly check the calendar and school website for news and event information.

Our Year 6 pupils are working hard to prepare themselves for their End of Key Stage SATS, which take place from May 12th – 15th. They have one more week of revision to go before they sit their tests. Keep up the hard work, Year 6!

Barnet Inclusion Advisory Team (IAT) is running the following online training for parents and carers: Supporting Positive Relationships and Behaviour at Home. This session gives an opportunity for parents to explore their children’s behaviour and the key strategies that may support positive changes. The course takes place online, on Monday 19th May 2025, 6pm to 7.30pm.  If you are interested in attending this session, please let the school office know, as all bookings must be made via the school.

One of our neighbours has lost their football which landed in the school grounds earlier this week. If you come across a yellow, Champion’s League football, please let the school office know and we will ensure it is returned to its owner.

This year’s Mental Health Awareness Week takes place from 12th – 18th May, 2025, focusing on the theme of ‘community.’ Coppetts Wood will be supporting this campaign through a range of activities and by raising money for the Mental Health Foundation through a 'Wear it Green' day. Pupils can wear green to school on Friday 16th May, for a £1 donation.

Please be reminded that we have an INSET day on Friday 27th June – school is closed to pupils.

Enjoy a lovely bank holiday weekend.
