Headteacher's Blog - 13.09.2025

Pupils have returned to Coppetts Wood, calm and settled after the summer break. They have completed their first full week back, demonstrating positive learning behaviours, following our school rules and working hard.

This half-term’s school value is ‘friendship.’ During assembly, pupils have discussed what it means to be a good friend and what they can do to be supportive, trusted friends to others. Pupils at Coppetts Wood are expected to look out for and after each other and make new pupils at our school feel welcome and there is lots of evidence to suggest that this happens, daily.

I received some lovely feedback, this week, from Jacque at SOTO - our new after-school provision - highlighting that this is what he has already seen in pupils at Coppetts Wood. He has been impressed at how well pupils care for and listen to each other as well as support each other when they need directing or reminding about high expectations. Keep up the impressive behaviours, Coppetts Wood!

If you have not already signed up for a place at one of our after-school activities, and you are interested in your child attending, please let the school office know. Clubs started this week and there are lots of spaces left in some of the clubs. Unfortunately, if we do not get enough interest, clubs are unable to run. If you are in receipt of Pupil Premium funding, this can be used to subsidise the cost of clubs by 50% - contact the school office if this applies to you.

Chef Crystal has made a great start at Coppetts Wood, with pupils enjoying the new menu and range of meals offered throughout the week. Hopefully, we can encourage more pupils to eat the hot school lunch, as it is a healthy, balanced meal and currently fully funded by the Mayor for London and therefore at no cost to families.

Parents and carers of pupils in Reception to Year 6 are invited to meet their child’s class teacher, see the learning environment and find out about this term’s curriculum. Meetings will take place between September 24th – 30th. Look out for an invite to your child’s class session.

Our Coppetts Wood Children's Centre will be holding a stay and play outreach session at Northside Primary School, every Tuesday from 9:45am to 11:00am. If you live in the vicinity of Northside, know someone who does or want to experience a different stay and play setting, you are welcome to bring your under 5 or baby along to this session.

Take a look at the range of community sessions available in our locality, as well as courses and training available to Barnet families. Free IT training is taking place at the Coppetts Wood Children’s Centre, 12-2pm on Wednesdays (term time only) from next week. Contact the school or Children’s Centre for further information. Booking required.

This term, we will be reviewing our school uniform policy, asking parents to contribute to the discussion and decisions about the Coppetts Wood school uniform.  Further information, to follow.

The Online Safety Act has been in force since 2023, with updates as recent as 1st August 2025. The aim of this act is to minimise online risks, placing new legal duties and responsibilities on online service providers, to help keep children and young people safer online. Find out how this act affects your child, you and professionals working with your child.

All classes will experience a Forest School session during the next fortnight. Look out for the email letting you know when your child’s session takes place and what they will need to wear.

Yesterday morning, I spent a wonderful time in our pre-nursery class, experiencing my first ‘Together We Dance’ session. Children, staff and parents were having great fun singing and dancing to the music and showing off their moves! Pre-nursery families are invited to join in the fun, every Friday between 11.30 – 11.45am and 2.45 – 3.00pm.

Enjoy the rest of your weekend.
