Headteacher's Blog - 26.05.2025

It was wonderful to see so many parents and carers join their children for our pre-nursery rhyme time café and our nursery and reception phonics cafés, last week. They were great opportunities to share some of the phonics teaching, activities and resources that we use daily, to teach our youngest children how to learn to read and spell. We love welcoming families into school and will be running more phonics cafés, next term. Thank you for your continued support and for getting involved in your child’s education.

Barnet Education and Learning Service (BELS) and Aucademy are offering a group of young people (aged 13-19 years old & living in Barnet) the opportunity to attend an eight-week, online Autistic Discovery Journey (ADJ) programme. If you have an older child who identifies as Autistic - either diagnosed or self-identifies - and this is of interest to you, please follow this link to find out more.

I am delighted to announce that Pinar Cetin has been elected as a new parent governor at Coppetts Wood. I am sure that you will join me in congratulating her on her successful election and I look forward to working with Pinar, as part of the school’s governing body. Thank you to the parents and carers who were nominated and expressed interest in the vacancy – we are lucky to be such a well-supported school.

We have a new look to our Friday celebration assemblies! This week, our first readers, authors and mathematicians of the week were celebrated and received trophies to acknowledge their success. Each week, we will be recognising pupils across the three key stages (EYFS, KS1 and KS2) who have shone in reading, writing and maths. As we are no longer presenting Special Mentions, I am excited to announce that we will be introducing a new system for acknowledging pupils who have gone ‘over and above’ during their learning and through their behaviour. More information to follow, after half-term. Please be reminded that all parents and carers are invited to join us for our Friday celebration assembly. We would love to see you there!

Many families are yet to download our school app and have therefore missed news and notifications from our website. Please share the app and website information with friends and other parents and carers and encourage them to download the app. From September, this will become the main method of communication, to share school news, events and our curriculum.

At this time in the school year, decisions are finalised about staffing for next year. I am pleased to announce that new teacher appointments have already been made, further strengthening our now stable teaching team. Details of specific teacher appointments will be shared with the confirmation of classes for September.

I am excited to be able to share today, news of two recent appointments of staff who are joining Coppetts Wood after half-term. Mrs Andrea Goldring is our new School Business Manager and Ms Leela Jones is the school’s new Assistant Headteacher and Inclusion Lead. I am looking forward to working with them both, as part of the school’s Senior Leadership Team, to bring about continued positive change and improvement at Coppetts Wood.

After several years as the after-school club provider, I can confirm that Little Ladybirds London (LBL) will no longer run this provision at Coppetts Wood, after half-term. A separate letter will be issued to families detailing the wrap-around provision for next half-term and from September. Please be reassured, that there will be no break in after-school club care and childcare hours will continue to be available daily, until 6pm.  I would like to thank LBL for their hard work and commitment to Coppetts Wood pupils over the years and wish them well for the future.

Enjoy the rest of your Bank Holiday and have a happy half-term!

Ms Lippa
