Headteacher's Blog - 27.09.2025

Thank you to the families that visited our coffee morning pop-up yesterday. We will confirm and share the total amount of fundraising that we will be sending to Macmillan Cancer Support.

It has been lovely seeing families at school this week, as our Meet the Teacher sessions have taken place, for most classes. We hope that the meetings have proved useful, providing parents and carers with information about your child’s timetable, curriculum and trips. On Tuesday, once all classes have met with families, we will share the notes from each session, via our school website. If you would like a hardcopy of the session notes, please let the school office know and we will print a copy for you.

The PTA has been busy planning this year’s events and activities for our school community, looking to build upon the fundraising they achieved in the summer term. Look out for details about the first few events, which will include school discos (October 24th) and a winter fair (November 29th) - save the dates! These events require help and support from across our school community, to ensure that they are well attended and successful. Please let the PTA committee know if you are able to offer any time, resources or connections or would like to be involved as part of the PTA committee.     PTA@coppettswood.barnet.sch.uk

I am very excited to announce that Mr Warwick is now offering individual and group music lessons at Coppetts Wood. Tuition is available in a range of instruments, for pupils in Reception to Year 6. Please contact the school office for more information.

Find out about Relationships, Health and Sex Education (RHSE) at Coppetts Wood, by attending an information session, explaining our curriculum and policy and providing an opportunity to look at the materials and resources we use with pupils. The session takes place on:

  • Tuesday 7th October 2025 at 2.00pm
  • Monday 13th October 2025, 9.00am (repeat session)

As the headteacher, I am lucky enough to see the progress, achievements and development of all pupils across the school – it really is the best job and a very privileged position. I always look forward to pupils sharing their learning with me and yesterday, I was treated to two pieces of wonderful writing, based on Stone Age Boy, by Satoshi Kitamura. There had clearly been a lot of work put into the narratives and both pupils were very proud of their finished pieces. Very well done, Joey and Manha - thank you for sharing your fantastic writing with me!

On Saturday 18th October 2025, we will be holding our annual open morning, for new and prospective families. Current families are very welcome to pop-in, between 9.00 – 11.30am, to visit classes, meet staff and explore the site.

Please check the school website calendar, to keep up to date with key dates and events.

Families with children in our Early Years (EYFS) classes are invited to take part in a phonics session with your child, at a phonics café or rhyme time session. It would be lovely to see you there.

I am delighted to announce that Mrs Buki Haxijaha has joined our Coppetts Wood inclusion team as our newly appointed Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCO). She will continue in her role as Year 3 class teacher, with additional responsibilities as SENCO, working alongside Mrs Maltese and Mrs Palton-Jones, to continue to build an effective, inclusive provision for all pupils at Coppetts Wood.

Enjoy the rest of your weekend.
