Home Learning with Purple Mash

Monday 27th April, 2020

Dear Parents and Carers,

I hope you are all keeping well and are finding a rhythm that works for you while you support your child/ren to complete their learning at home.  As the lockdown has been extended into the summer term, we have changed our working a little to ensure each child’s teacher is able to support the children in their class with their learning at home more.  Starting this week, we are beginning to gradually introduce the educational website ‘Purple Mash’ to children in Years 1 to 6.  Purple Mash can be accessed from home on a laptop, desktop or tablet.  There is a link on our school website in the ‘class pages’ which will take you directly to the Purple Mash website.

Purple Mash is a safe online environment which supports children’s learning in English, Maths, Computing, History, Geography, R.E., Art, Music and Design and Technology.  Purple Mash does not require any downloading or allow interaction with people online and children cannot make any financial transactions.  It is a great learning resource that will allow your child/ren to submit work for their teacher and allocated Teaching Assistant to provide feedback and support when required.

We will continue uploading the Maths and English resources onto the class pages on the school website as we have been doing and, as time goes on, tasks from other curriculum areas will also be set using Purple Mash.  The main focus for this week will be getting everyone – parents, carers, children and teachers - familiar with Purple Mash by asking the children to upload a few Maths and English tasks onto the class blog so staff can provide feedback and any additional support needed.

Your child’s teacher will email you directly with your child’s individual login details for Purple Mash and will inform you about their expectations of what needs to be completed and uploaded.  Parents and carers in the Early Years Foundation Stage will continue to use Tapestry to receive and share their child/ren’s learning.

Should your child’s teacher become unwell and unable to continue working, another member of staff will temporarily provide cover to ensure your child continues to receive their home learning and have feedback on it.

Once you and your child/ren become familiar with Purple Mash, it should be very straightforward to use and I hope you will find it beneficial.

With Best Wishes,

Kirstie Barrett
