Additional Resource Provision

In September 2018, we opened our new Additional Resource Provision (ARP) for children with autism having previously been an ARP for children with complex language difficulties.  The first children to start our ARP in September 2018 in Reception are now in Year 3.  We have children in Years 4 to 6 within the ARP who transitioned from other mainstream schools into our ARP.

We have two ARP class teachers - one in ARP1 for children in Reception to Year 2 and the other in ARP2 for children in Years 3 to 6.

At our ARP, we aim to provide personalised learning experiences for all children. We have highly skilled staff who are passionate about creating engaging opportunities to enable all children to achieve their next steps in their learning journey at their own pace. Our provision intends to provide a safe and nurturing environment where children are encouraged to express and discuss their emotions and needs. They are supported to design their own bespoke tool kit to regulate their emotions and energy levels and encouraged to use the strategies from their toolkit to get ready to learn.

Our curriculum is adapted from Birth to Five Matters and the National Curriculum to suit the broad range of our children's developmental stages. We start from where children are at, according to their Educational Health Care Plans, and plan activities based on their interests to motivate them to learn. The curriculum is a project-based curriculum and is designed to provide sensory learning opportunities to engage and motivate children. We use our beautiful green space in and around the school to allow children to use their preferred learning styles.

We aim to create a fluidity between the ARP classrooms and mainstream classrooms and want our children to recognise and accept their differences in both environments. We achieve that by having regular assemblies on diversity and whole school professional development on autism related topics. We work closely with our multidisciplinary team and mostly importantly, our parents.

We are very proud of our provision and would love to show you around. The visits to our provision are scheduled for Tuesday mornings and appointments should be made by contacting the school office.
